Meet the team: Cass Turquand

Our Personal Assistant to the Director of Operations, Cass Turquand has been with LCE for just over a year now, and in that time, has achieved so much. Not only is Cass a dedicated, valuable member, but he also brings the humour and positivity to the team.

We asked Cass a few questions about both work and personal interests. Read on if you want to find out about Cass’s many talents as well as how to master the perfect mushroom risotto.

What’s the best task you are have worked in on the past year?

I’ve taken great pleasure in any project that I have been able to manage from start to finish. From the initial contact with the client, through the entire process of setting up the Proposal, arranging for the works to be done, delivering the final product, all the way through to receiving the final assignment sign off and client survey document. Gives a sense of completeness and overview to the job.

What is the most exciting part about your job?

Being acknowledged and respected for the work that I do, and the ideas that I have had to improve processes, goes a very long way. It’s a small thing, but a very important part of the employer/employee relationship that LCE and GKT have mastered, and other workplaces could learn from.

Can you describe your typical day working in the LCE Team?

Working as PA to Andy, the Director of Operations, my initial port of call will always be actioning any tasks requested by him, and by extension, the other Directors. This ranges from booking accommodations and meetings with clients, up to producing Proposals to send out to clients. Alongside that, in concert with the rest of the Admin Team, our main daily responsibility is generating new business through Compliance work. This is done by determining new and existing clients whose Energy Certificates and Air Conditioning Inspections are due to elapse, and approaching them to see if they would be interested in us actioning the renewal, then generating a proposal.

What are you passionate about?

Science and the pursuit of knowledge have always been important to me, as you can never have too broad an understanding of the world around us. That said, humour and finding the lighter side of things is imperative as well, to keep the balance. Studiousness and absurdity in equal measure.

Who inspires you?

My fiancée, who forces me kicking and screaming to be a better version of myself every day.

Do you have a talent or hobby you do outside of work?

I am passionate about storytelling and writing, though like too many wannabe wordsmiths, I am yet to find the time to ever finish anything. I have written stories in many different genres since 2003, with a focus on fantasy, sci-fi, and more recently, horror.

I also love the process of learning new languages; I have made a lot of progress in learning Italian for an upcoming trip to Italy, as well as a moderate grounding in Spanish during college, aeons ago now.

I am also qualified in Photography and proficient in Graphic Design, have experience in Music Composition and Video Production, Web Design and during the Pandemic, I also started to learn Game Development and Coding. And just for fun, I recently began to dabble in Palaeontology, rudimentary Chaos Theory/Mathematics, and Quantum Physics.

What’s something you would like to do this year that you have never done before?

In terms of work, I have wanted to gain familiarity with Marketing and Copywriting for some time, so I am hoping to make in-roads there this year.

Outside of work, as part of our trip to Italy, my fiancée and I are planning to visit Bologna and make the most of being in, arguably, the food capital of the world. As well as that, to see as much of the Bologna Porticos as we can (though as they are 62km long, I won’t be so ambitious as to aim to walk the length of them, especially after eating so much excellent cheese and prosciutto!)

What are your personal plans/goals for the coming year?

Outside of work, I’d like to get a horror short story finished and published. 20 years is more than long enough to have been a writer with nothing in a magazine or book shop to show

for it.

Tell us a fun fact about yourself

I have mastered a recipe for Mushroom Risotto that even Italians have said is excellent. And they are notoriously hard to impress where food is concerned. (The trick is Rosemary, added to the pan before anything else, to give it as much time as possible to permeate the flavour, as well as dash of ricotta or mascarpone cheese right at the end of the cook with the parmesan for a creamier texture.)
