We’re thrilled to celebrate a significant milestone for Emma Marchant, who has been a cornerstone of the LCE team for a decade. Since joining us in 2014, Emma has grown into her role as Head of Business Administration, playing a vital part in shaping our successes and driving the company forward.
To mark this special occasion, we sat down with Emma and asked her 10 questions to honour her 10 years at LCE. Her reflections reveal the journey, challenges, and triumphs that have defined her time with us.
Can you tell us more about your role and background?
I started at LCE as a Business Administrator, new into the world of engineering and sustainability, having previously come from a Human Resources Consultancy firm. Whilst operating in a different industry, the company was of similar size and structure.
Now in my role of Head of Business Administration, I oversee office functionality and efficiency, provide a first point of contact and last check for quality. My remit spans across numerous areas of the business and I am involved both at an operational and strategic level.
What do you like the most about working at LCE?
Over the years I have built a wealth of knowledge with regards to the business and service offerings we provide. Whilst I still prefer to be behind the scenes assisting with the coordination of projects and services, I have enjoyed the exposure to different clients and projects.
What is your favourite part of your job? What excites you?
Every day is different. Whilst the main aspects of my job remain the same, there are always new challenges or changes to rise to.
What do you see as the biggest accomplishments since you started?
My longevity of service has enabled me to provide as a reliable constant within the business during changing times, something of which I take pride in. In addition, I have achieved promotion to my current level and underpinned this with a CIPD Level 7 Advanced Diploma in HR Management.
What has been your biggest “lesson learned” in the 10 years?
I believe one of the key skills in most businesses but specifically consultancy within our sector is to remain agile and flexible. A lesson that I continually learn is to remain organised and ‘up to speed’ in an ever changing and growing business. Also, the key is prioritisation and not ‘one size fits all’.
What is your biggest hope for the next decade in LCE? Where do you see yourself in the next 10 years?
I hope to still hold a central position within LCE in the next 10 years and will be part of a company that has grown and expanded substantially. LCE is continually expanding and growing, and I look forward to being part of the journey. In addition, there is always more to learn, and I look forward to greater exposure to other business activities and functions.
Tell us how life has changed personally for you in the last 10 years
I started at LCE very early in my career and since joining have got married and had two children. I have grown up within the company and LCE have supported my professional and personal developments and growth for which I am extremely grateful.
Can you share a memory of a funny moment at LCE?
Funny moments usually stem from our team days outs, whether it be the competitive nature of our Directors in our previous boat races across to the Ise of Wight or more relaxed social atmosphere and dancing on the tables at Christmas events, it is never a dull moment when you have the team together.
If you could go back in time, what advice would you give your younger self?
To be more confident and ask questions. To try to thrive in situations that may feel uncomfortable rather than avoid them as it’s the only way to improve skills and grow.
Can you tell us a fun fact about yourself?
I’ve been very lucky to have different experiences growing up and have travelled to Alaska, skied in various resorts and flown in a helicopter into the Grand Canyon.
Looking Ahead
As we celebrate this remarkable milestone, we extend our deepest gratitude to Emma for her unwavering dedication, resilience, and enthusiasm. Her contributions over the past 10 years have been invaluable, and we look forward to many more years of success together.
