Energy Savings Opportunity Scheme (ESOS) is a a mandatory energy assessment scheme for large organisations in the UK.

ESOS mandates that organisations conduct an in-depth review of their energy use in order to identify ways to improve energy efficiency. Across the scheme (2015 – 2030), the government estimates that after ESOS (Phase 2) the net benefit to the UK will around £1.6 billion.

​

Organisations that qualify for ESOS must carry out ESOS assessments every 4 years. These assessments are audits of the energy used by their buildings, industrial processes and transport to identify cost-effective energy saving measures.

You need to comply with ESOS if your organisation: 

​

• Employs 250 or more people

• Has an annual turnover of £44 million

​

The phase 2 deadline passed on 5 December 2019, the next deadline for ESOS is phase 3 which is listed below: 

 

Phase 3 Deadline: 5 December 2023

Phase 4 Deadline: 5 December 2027

ESOS assesments are rquired to be signed off by an ESOS lead assessor.
